I’ve talked about this before, but I want to go into a little more detail about the difference between 3D and 4D massage chairs.
In the past, I’ve mentioned the differences between 2D, 3D, and 4D massage technology. With 3D, the rollers move up and down and side to side along your back. In addition, they can move forward and backward, which allows you to adjust the depth or intensity of the massage.
With 4D, the rollers still move up and down, side to side, and forward and backward, just like 3D. However, 4D adds another element: variable roller speed. This means the chair can change the speed and rhythm of the rollers during the massage, often automatically as part of the program.
That change in speed and rhythm is what manufacturers refer to as the fourth dimension. Now, I’m not sure that truly qualifies as a “dimension” in the physics sense, but that’s what the term 4D refers to in massage chairs.
With 3D chairs, the roller speed is typically fixed within a program, although you can sometimes adjust it separately using a button on the remote. In contrast, 4D chairs integrate speed and rhythm changes directly into the automatic massage programs, creating a more dynamic and realistic massage experience.
