It may be Friday, the 13th, but we’re not going to let ANY bad things happen on this day because we are going to wash away alllll the bad juju with this glorious FirstBase Skincare Clean Slate Cleanser!
I have raved about this Canadian women-founded brand since 2023 (reviews) and have continually re-purchased their products long after the press samples have been given especially their Double Dose Vitamin C Serum which has become one of my all-time favourite vitamin C serums that I cannot live without!
Certified COSMOS Organic and Ecocertified, this gentle gel cleanser is powered by aloe leaf juice and plant-based surfactants to ensure that skin does not feel stripped, but instead nourished and hydrated.
Red algae and green tea extract ensure the skin is softened, smoothed and protected from free radicals while arginine stimulates collagen production. I’m not sure how effective this will be in with a wash-off product, but I’m guessing with continued use there may be some cumulative effects. Finally olive fruit oil further ensures that skin is deeply moisturized and hydrated. FirstBase always has a really nice ingredient list and you will see that aloe leaf juice is the first ingredient instead of water which you do not see very often and when I have, it is generally in more high-end organic brands.
The packaging is also quite nice with a sturdy glass bottle that sits well on a counter or in the shower and isn’t in danger of tipping over.
The texture is indeed like a gel with 1-2 pumps being enough for my face and neck. This also removes eye makeup and does not sting my eyes at all! It has a tiny whisper of a lather, but leaves my skin feeling clean and soft. It also smells like rooibos tea which is one of my favourite scents!
Final verdict: I have a lot of cleansers to go through so as part of a pledge to myself to not buy more of anything until I am done, but once I am this cleanser is at the top of my list! I feel happy when I get to use it, from the scent, to the packaging, to how my skin feels after I rinse off and I am supporting a Canadian business!
