To say that Sabrina Carpenter is capable of providing the quintessential “song of the summer” is an understatement. “Espresso” was everywhere around this time last year, and it looks like we’re in for another sunny Sabrina season with her new single, “Manchild,” a perky, tongue-in-cheek tune that combines playful synth with pop-country vibes and gently delivered snarky lyrics. And with the launch of its accompanying video, it’s a safe bet that Carpenter has also launched the hairstyle of the summer: the corkscrew-curl shag.
Carpenter hinted at a couple of her “Manchild” looks via Instagram over the last few days, starting with a voluminous Farrah-Fawcett-meets-Dolly-Parton look with loose curls that don’t stray too far from her go-to texture. But as the Friday premiere neared, the singer-songwriter dropped a carousel topped off with a stunning twist on the layered look: well-defined spirals.
Holding a sweet golden retriever puppy who’s only a little blonder than Carpenter herself, she’s sporting middle-parted curls in a retro shag shape, with layers that start with curly curtain bangs, then hitting at the shoulders, and then mid-back.
