If I were to ask what your favorite Sol de Janeiro Perfume Mist is, what scent would you choose? It’s a daunting task: All eight fragrances live up to their name, “cheirosa,” a Portuguese word that refers to someone who smells really good. Chances are you’re familiar with Cheirosa 62: It’s the Allure Reader’s Choice Award-winning one in the light orange bottle. With it’s sweet notes of pistachio, vanilla, and caramel, Cheirosa 62 is the brand’s signature scent; it also comes in an array of other body products like body oil, lotion, shower gel, and deodorant.
Like many of you, I’ve slathered, sprayed, and pumped out Cheirosa 62, which was inspired by the year 1962 when Rio’s famous beach at Ipanema gained worldwide notoriety thanks to the song The Girl From Ipanema (the numbers on all the fragrances refer to a notable year in Brazilian history from which Sol de Janeiro draws inspiration for each scent). Viral For A Reason: Sol de Janeiro Cheirosa ’68 Beija Flor Perfume Mist
Behind the Number: 1968 marked the release of Tropicália: ou Panis et Circencis, an album considered to be a “manifesto” of the vibrant Tropicálismo movement in Brazil.
After Cheirosa 62, this scent was my first introduction to the Sol de Janeiro Perfume Mists. The sheer baby pink bottle racked up some serious street credit on social media after customers started comparing this $38 bottle to Maison Francis Kurkdjian Paris Baccarat Rouge 540, which retails for a whopping $335. Both are floral fragrances that feature jasmine (which I’m a sucker for) as the primary top note. Cheirosa 68’s inclusion of dragonfruit packs a bit of a sweeter punch than Baccarat Rouge 540’s saffron and cedarwood additions. I reach for this pink bottle when I’m running out the door for an errand or coffee with a girlfriend.
