Healthiest, Safest, Best Water To Drink – Distilled Vs. Spring Water – DL’s Health & Beauty

Hello everyone! It has been a little while since I have done a blog article! I am revamping the online store as well and returning to creating more content for you all. So today, I am doing a health article. This blog article will focus on water since it is one of the most essential things that the human body needs, and most of the human body is made up of water, so a large amount of your health is based upon water. But they’re different types of water available in stores. Which waters are best for you and your family? So today, we’re going to focus on the best, healthiest, and safest water to drink. We’re going to talk about the differences between distilled water and spring water, the pros and cons of them.

The Importance of Water

Before we are even born, our lives start out in a water sack as we’re growing and developing inside of our mothers. Our existence starts in water, and we continue to need water throughout our entire lives to survive. Most of the human body is composed of water and water is a good source of oxygen, hydrogen, vitamins, essential nutrients, and minerals that we need to survive and thrive and be healthy and well.

“According to Mitchell and others (1945), the brain and heart are composed of 73% water, and the lungs are about 83% water. The skin contains 64% water, muscles and kidneys are 79%, and even the bones are watery: 31%” Water Science School. (2019, October 22). The Water in You: Water and the Human Body. Water gives us access to oxygen, which allows us to breath, but it also keeps our body healthy. The vitamins and minerals that are contained in water also help prevent the development of certain diseases, so it is essential that we continue to drink water to keep our bodies healthy, but we must also understand that the kind of water that we drink matters, and not all water in the store that is processed is good for us. The two most popular processed waters sold in stores are spring water and distilled water. We will start with distilled water.

Distilled Water

Distilled water requires different steps, but it starts by boiling the water, which helps remove bacteria, viruses, germs, and parasites in the water since extreme high temperatures can kill some bacteria and germs like extreme cold and extreme heat. However, boiling still doesn’t take out heavy chemicals like lead out of the water, so you still need to continue the purification process to remove more pollutants from the water.

When distilling water, the water is boiled with the aim of getting the steam and collecting it. The boiling process separates everything, so the steam contains just the water without anything in it. The minerals remain in the boiled water, but not the steam, so the steam collected to make distilled water contains no essential nutrients, vitamins, or minerals that the human body needs to grow and be healthy. This steam also doesn’t contain any chemical pollutants either. The steam is then taken and condensed so that it becomes a liquid once again, and that is what is put into bottles of distilled water that’s sold on the shelves in grocery stores. So basically, the distilled water is devoid of everything: all impurities, heavy chemicals, and all the vitamins and minerals that you need for your health and wellness. Distilled water is just water in its purest form without anything in it.

“Unlike simple filtered water, distilled water is pretty much free of all impurities. That means it’s missing beneficial minerals like calcium and magnesium and will taste a little weird, even though it’s safe to drink. Maintaining and storing a good supply of distilled water is a great way to prepare for emergency situations like hurricanes, floods, wildfires or other natural disasters” Conaway, S. (2026). Be Prepared for the Next Emergency by Making Your Own Distilled Water. CNET. https://www.cnet.com/home/kitchen-and-household/make-your-own-distilled-water-heres-how/

Thus, distilled water is very different from the water that the Earth naturally produces. Distilled water is in a lot of ways man-made, and it is not natural since this kind of water is not naturally produced in nature. Distilled water is more for emergency situations, such as when you don’t have access to water due to a natural disaster. Distilled water is not something you’re meant to drink on a daily basis to meet your water needs. So for this reason, I consider distilled water to be over processed, and I don’t feel that it is healthy to drink. If you give this water to a baby or a child that is growing and developing, to a senior adult whose body is changing and breaking down, or to someone who is sick, weak, or vulnerable, they could develop disorders and mineral deficiencies, so distilled water should definitely not be given to vulnerable individuals or those who are health conscientious to drink. The only way that you could drink distilled water is if you add minerals to it, but again, I do consider this water over processed and unnatural, so I don’t recommend drinking it.

“According to the World Health Organization report, there are a handful possible negative effects that come with drinking demineralized (i.e. distilled) water–WHO claims it ‘might not be fully appropriate for consumption’ because distilled water: Can cause metals and other materials to leach from pipes and storage containers, It doesn’t taste as good as tap water, [it] can lead to low intake of essential elements and micronutrients” Bear, S. Spring Water

Spring water is as it sounds, it’s water that comes from a spring. The water that fills our springs comes from snow, rain, and sleet. Our springs contain some of the most amazing, healthiest water, and spring water contains a lot of vitamins, essential nutrients, and minerals.

“Spring water is ground water that flows unassisted or by a pump or well to a surface opening. In other words, a spring is a concentrated discharge of ground water to the surface…Ground water flows through aquifers from certain recharge areas on uplands where it is replenished by rainfall and snow to discharge areas in valleys so that it flows to the surface into streams and rivers..The water flowing from this recharge area has energy acquired from the higher elevation of that area” JWilliams. (2017, February 26). Natural Spring Water Process | Rocky Mountain Spring Water. Rocky Mountain Water. https://www.rockymtnspringwater.com/single-post/2017/02/26/bottled-spring-water

Spring water is natural and it contains the energy from the earth. Spring water also contains the minerals, nutrients, and vitamins in it that humans need to survive and thrive. Thus, the healthiest water you can drink will be spring water. Spring water will contain bugs, parasites, and germs, but that can be cleaned out of the water through more natural purification processes that are generally used on spring Water, such as boiling, water purifying filters to filter out chemicals that get into the water from human chemical usage and runoff, ozone, etc.

“Treatment for spring water is similar to that used for tap water. The water is treated to control any microbiological or chemical hazards of the raw water…The water undergoes a minimum of filtration and disinfections by either ozone or UV light” JWilliams. (2017, February 26). Natural Spring Water Process | Rocky Mountain Spring Water. Rocky Mountain Water. https://www.rockymtnspringwater.com/single-post/2017/02/26/bottled-spring-water

There are so many different ways to purify water: There are many physical ways to purify water, such as boiling, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, salt, ozone, etc. these are more natural safer ways to purify water that don’t harm the environment or individuals or take out too much from the water. There are so many chemical and biological methods used to purify water as well, but for the water that you drink and that you give to your loved ones, it should be healthy and safe for you, and it shouldn’t be depleted of everything that water naturally contains. Vitamins and minerals should not be removed from the water, and if they are removed from it, they should be put back, so drinking any water that doesn’t have vitamins, nutrients, and minerals in it is a waste for your body; it doesn’t do anything for you to help you in terms of health and wellness, and if you drink this kind of water long-term, you’re actually leading yourself down a path towards poor health, mineral, nutrient, and vitamin deficiencies, weakened immune system, anemia, and body damage, especially for your bones.
