If there’s ever a time to go all out with sparkly, shiny fingertips and toes, it’s the holidays! Just ask Demi Lovato, whose multicolored, gem-studded “modernist holiday” manicure looks straight out of a retro celebration.
Lovato’s nails were the work of her go-to nail artist, Natalie Minerva, and were reminiscent of “vintage Christmas lights.” We absolutely see the vision; there’s something very mid-century modern about the gemstones’ color and shape, like those old-school bulb lights blinking on a beautifully decorated tree or along the edge of a rooftop.
To start, Minerva shaped the musician’s nails into soft, medium-length almonds, then applied OPI’s Bare My Soul, a sheer nude, as the neutral base. Atop that, she placed a handful of multicolored gems in various shapes and sizes, including long rectangles and teeny circles in shades of blue, red, smoky purple, and teal. Each nail was home to anywhere from two to four gems in varying placements. The manicure is definitely glittery, twinkly, shiny, and sparkly, but it’s also pretty subtle and doesn’t feel too holiday-coded; you could easily wear it for New Year’s Eve, on vacation, for a wedding, or whenever you want to take a simple manicure up a notch or three.
