When Anne Hathaway announced that she’s expecting her third child a couple of weeks ago, most of the attention was understandably on the happy news. But beauty lovers couldn’t help but notice something else peeking through in her Instagram reel: a fresh set of highlights. Now, thanks to a new outing in New York City, we’re finally getting a proper look at the color update.
Hathaway’s signature deep brunette hair hasn’t undergone a dramatic transformation, but it has definitely been brightened with soft, caramel ribbons of blondness. Rather than a stark contrast, the highlights melt seamlessly into her rich base color, creating dimension without muddying her glossy, rich, brown base. The placement around her face is especially flattering, lending warmth to her complexion while emphasizing her voluminous blowout.

Now, if you’re wondering, Hey, is it OK that she’s highlighting her hair while pregnant? In a word, yes. “Highlighting or painting one’s hair by putting dye on strands of hair so that it doesn’t touch the scalp reduces risk, as the chemicals are only absorbed by the hair rather than by the scalp and bloodstream,” Aleha Aziz, MD, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Columbia University, previously told Allure. And considering how new these highlights are, she probably waited until she was out of her first trimester, which Aziz also advised.
