You know, I feel like I was just kind of, I don’t know,
maybe I was just like a pick me like makeup, nye, you know?
Like I only take five minutes to go out,
you know, like that girl, ew.
Hi, Allure, this is Julia Fox and this is Night Out.
[upbeat music continues]
I’m just gonna do like a little black smokey eye
and then match it to my pink, sparkly top.
I like to really commit to the bit
and really be in character.
So it’s definitely easier to match makeup
to outfit than match outfit to makeup.
I don’t usually wear pink or sparkles,
so I’m in uncharted territory, but that’s okay.
When doing anything like black,
I always say like less is more and just start
by shaping and then you can build on top
because I want it to be smokey,
I don’t want it to be graphic.
I’ve done the graphic, it’s over.
Smokey’s coming back.
And then I like to start a little bit here just to kind
of give some definition on the bridge of my nose.
Not that much, but I’ll fix it later.
[upbeat music]
Okay, so it’s almost like where I want it to be.
And I have eyebrows right now,
which is like really disorienting, I’m not gonna lie.
It just feels a little limiting, you know?
‘Cause like my eyes like boxed in by the brow.
I had a movie and my character unfortunately,
did not have bleached brows.
Although I do have bleached brows
in my next move coming out, which is gonna be amazing.
Yeah, the director was really cool.
He was an ally for sure.
He was like, I want you to feel comfortable.
Said no man ever before, okay.
[Interviewer] I feel like when I try to do a smokey eye,
I go too far out or something.
I do too, I always do.
I always go a little too much.
Then you clean it up after.
Like all of this, I’m gonna like blend it out,
but I’m gonna do it with my foundation.
Not my foundation, my press powder.
Right now, my getting ready playlist is Kylie Minogue,
who I’m obsessed with.
Madonna, obviously, always and forever.
Charli, of course, and my newest addition,
Addison Rae, obsessed with her.
Chappell, Doechii, duh.
JT, SZA, every single girl you can think of,
she’s on the playlist.
I’m actually gonna do my upper waterline.
It just kind of makes the lashes look longer.
Like that.
Okay, then I wanna blend this out a little bit more.
Just my pressed powder.
And it’ll just kind of like take it down
and blend it out a little more so it’s not like too graphic.
During the indie sleaze era, I went out a lot.
I went to Greenhouse, before that I went to Beatrice a lot,
this place called 10 June.
LOL, if you know, you know.
But I remember once I went out with this guy,
we actually met that night at Kenmare.
He took me to the Williamsburg Bridge
and then we climbed it all the way to the top,
like on top of the things.
It was really cute and really romantic.
Oh, actually another night I fell into the Hudson River.
No, yeah, it was the Hudson River.
I was like, Wait, was it the East River?
Completely fell into the Hudson River
and lost my Miu Miu slides
and I was really upset about that.
[upbeat music] [water splashes]
My beauty looks then were actually very minimal.
Like I didn’t really get into eyeshadow
until like pretty recently.
Never had the patience to like sit and do my makeup.
I was always just like a mascara, eyeliner,
little bit of concealer where I needed it and like lipstick.
My go-to back then was Ruby Woo.
Just very indie sleaze of me.
Now, doing makeup, for me, is like a creative expression
and it is kind of like a good time.
So you just kind of evolved and discover new things
about yourself and I find makeup like very therapeutic.
[Interviewer] How would you describe the different areas
of makeup that you’ve had thus far?
You know, I feel like I was just kind of, I don’t know,
maybe I was just like a pick me like makeup, nye, you know?
Like I only take five minutes to go out,
you know, like that girl, ew.
And then I don’t know, something changed and now,
I take my time and I don’t care
and I don’t care if men like a no makeup look.
I like a makeup look.
And I’m still like changing and evolving
and I always wanna try new things
and not like pigeonhole myself in one look or one vibe.
I use makeup to express who I am,
people should feel comfortable doing that.
So I don’t really hop on like beauty trends
or kind of just do whatever I want.
Okay, now, I’m gonna go in with some white
and just hit like write there
and then I’ll blend that out too
and a little bit right there, same on the other side.
It gives some highlights, some definition.
A little too much.
Okay, cute.
I’m gonna do my brow ’cause I over plucked my brows
and now, they’re sitting kind of weird.
Motherhood changes every little thing about you.
Like sometimes I feel like I’m in like a stranger’s body.
Time goes by so fast and sometimes I don’t recognize myself
in the mirror, but it’s worth it. [laughs]
Gwyneth Paltrow just said that she regrets
that not having more kids and that had me thinking like,
’cause I’ve been so against having a second
and then I was like, Wait, am I gonna regret
prioritizing all these kind of like frivolous things?
It’s just so hard, you know?
‘Cause I feel like as women, this is…
We’re in an unprecedented space right now.
We work, we have careers, we’re independent.
You know, up until 30 years ago,
we couldn’t even have credit cards.
So it’s like we’re kind of the pioneers in trying
to make this thing work and to prove that it can work.
But it definitely comes with a lot of sacrifice
and a lot of hard work and very little sleep
and you know, when my son is like holding my hand
to fall asleep and telling me how much he loves me
and it’s like the best, it’s like I want 10 of you.
The only thing that’s really changed about glamming
as a mom is that now, my son has to be involved.
You know, ’cause he looks at like a palette like this
and things like, Oh, it’s like watercolors, you know?
So I’ll just pretend to put like a little powder
on the brush and then like do him too
and just kind of make it like a fun bonding thing for us.
Okay, now, I wanna kind of liven it up a little bit
and since I’m wearing this pink, sparkly number,
I’m gonna go in with this Samaya lip gloss
and just put some on my finger and dab it on my eyelids.
Give it a nice little pop.
And they love like a wet, like greasy eyelid.
Is it translating?
Okay, good.
And then a little on there.
That just looks so much better.
And I like, like the translucentness of it.
I’ll put some on my lip too.
Yeah, that’s so cute. [upbeat music continues]
Okay, I am just gonna go in and put some blush right here
and give it like a little baby doll look.
I know this is not the correct brush,
the makeup community’s gonna kill me.
[upbeat music continues]
I’m just gonna put some mascara.
Imma go in with this MOB mascara that I love.
[upbeat music continues]
Okay.
All right, I think I am ready to hit the town.
Thanks for having me Allure. [lip smacks]
