I don’t know about you, but I have been feeling the heat—literally and figuratively. Much of the United States has been under quite the heatwave, but you know what instantly cooled down my sweaty, humid self? One glimpse of Hailey Bieber’s new nail color!
OK, I’m exaggerating, but the Rhode founder’s nail shade du jour is the definition of cool blue. She and her husband Justin stepped out on a gorgeous summer night in New York City, with Bieber wearing a deep red mini slip dress and a contrasting manicure in an equally gorgeous cornflower blue hue—one that feels like a breath of fresh, air-conditioned air.

Bieber’s nails were her preferred length and shape—medium almonds—and painted with a few coats of a creamy sky blue polish with a lilac-y undertone. (Gucci’s Vernis à Ongles Nail Polish in Lucy would be a close match, as would Essie’s Nail Lacquer in Ripple Reflect.) We’re so used to seeing her in her signature glazed nails that blue feels like a big departure for the star, but it’s exactly the right pick for a hot, steamy summer in the city. Don’t you feel cooler just looking at it?
Though we love a classic bright, bubbly hot pink, cherry red, or tangerine orange from June through August or the unexpectedness of a dark, moody manicure in the summertime, it seems like our favorite celebs have been in a pastel mani mindset, Bieber included. Michelle Obama recently wore a similar pale blue polish, Emily Blunt went lavender, and Taylor Swift got a jumpstart on the season in an equally chilly millennial mint shade. The hottest, sweatiest, stickiest days of the season are right around the corner, so if you need to chill out on a 90-degree day, lean into cool-toned, creamy pastels to take down the temperature.
