If you thought the coquette aesthetic was on its way out, Kim Kardashian is here to say, “Hey, wait a minute!” The Skims founder just embraced the girly, ruffly, bow-loving look with a festive—and somewhat unexpected—hairstyle.
As someone who has spent the better part of my career writing about the Kardashian-Jenner family, these Instagram Stories made me do a double take, simply because I don’t know that I’ve ever seen Kardashian in a hair bow this big and bold before. (She did wear a bow-bedecked ponytail inspired by a ’90s Chanel runway look for an event earlier this year.) For her “Skimsmas” live stream event, however, Kardashian took the bow to the next level with a half-up hairstyle tied with an ivory satin bow right on top of her head—more Samantha Parkington the American Girl doll than Claudia Schiffer on the catwalk. Kardashian’s dark hair was softly curled and subtly teased at the crown of her head, with the bow placed directly in front of the teased-up section for a sweet, retro ’60s vibe.
